On April 25th a common work event in Saulkrasti dunes was organised. The aim of the event was to strenghten coastal dunes.

Common work event gathered surprisingly large number of participants. More than 150 volunteers, including representatives from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of the Republic of Latvia , the National Armed Forces and the US Army participated.

Dune strenghtening was done between Inčupe and Pēterupe rivers. About 300 m long willow fences along the coast were made. It will strengthen the dunes and also will regulate the flow of visitors and reduce the anthropogenic load on the slopes.

In addition there was collected several bags of garbage in surrounding area.

Common work event is organized in the framework of project LIFE13 ENV/LV/000839 "LIFE EcoystemServices" which is implemented by the Nature Conservation Agency of Latvia, association "Baltic coasts" and Saulkrasti Municipality. Project is co-financed by the European Union and Latvian Environmental Protection Fund.
