RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ECOSYSTEM SERVICES APPROACH INCORPORATION IN NATURE MANAGEMENT PLANS OF SPECIALLY PROTECTED NATURE TERRITORIES
The recommendations have been developed based on the results of the project implementation in Jaunķemeri and Saulkrasti, where the project implementation areas are located.
In cooperation with the Latvian Fund for Nature and the European Commission's LIFE program project “Coastal Habitat Conservation in Nature Park “Piejūra”” (LIFE CoHaBit, LIFE15 NAT/LV/000900), an additional assessment of ecosystem services has been performed for the part of the nature park “Piejūra” in Saulkrasti municipality. The project activities cover part of the forest and dune ecosystems and building areas typical of the Latvian coast.
The purpose of the recommendations is to provide proposals for the development of Nature Management Plans, where the current and future provision of ecosystems and their services is taken into account to set conservation objectives and planning measures.
The recommendations and the Nature Management Plans for the Nature Park “Piejūra” and Ķemeri National Park updated in accordance with elaborated recommendations are a practical examples of the ecosystem services approach use in nature conservation planning.
